Whenever I am in a slump, I need to recharge by photographic battery by doing something out of the ordinary. Have been too engrossed in curves, level and monitor calibration apart from f-stops and 'smile please'. I took a break and came to Kerala. Just coming here won't help unless I haul ass and do something about it. So my brother dragged my reluctant ass out of the house and took me for a walk along the banks of a local rivulet.
It was evening, the sun was about to set in an hour and the men, women and the children congregated at the river for washing, a bath and general gossip. The children, of course, were splashing around and diving in different parts and seeing who could hold their breath longest underwater.
We walked deeper into the quieter areas and found a couple of boys sitting bare-chested, about to jump in, after they have texted their friends about something. We stood their with curious eyes trained on us. After a quick friendly chat I was able to convince them to pose for me. Since I hadn't planned on this shot, I got my reluctant brother to run back to the car and get me the strobes.
These are the results. Apart from the photographs, I am now reenergised and looking thinking of new ideas, places, lighting, poses...
Moreover, it was quite an experience, walking into a place where only men and boys were getting ready for their evening dip in the river, curious eyes staring at me because I was the only woman there. If you are from Kerala, then you will know what I mean.

I am so happy to know that you have started to blog and there is now a way to know the story behind your amazing pictures and to get to know the photographer herself! All the best. Fondly remembering holding my breath longest under the water. Picture reminds me of my most favourite moments in Kundhipuzha.
